Missives From Troy

I am Helen Doremus. I write. I sing. I create things. I do kung fu. I wear a hat. I occasionally curse. I like pie. When I make a thing that's meant to amuse, it comes here to live.

Sesame Street performer Eric Jacobson and Super Grover 2.0 stopped by Comic Con 2012. From the looks of it everyone had a great time. Check out the photos!

I’ve started three or four lists this week, many of them a little ranty, and after I got bogged down in each of them, I wound up on Youtube, going through my favorite videos for a quick pick-me-up. So it finally occurred to me, why not just take a week and give you ten amusing things to watch? And so, that’s exactly what I did.

  1. Simon’s Cat — “Let Me In!”
  2. The Muppet Show — Danny Boy
  3. Gogol Bordello — American Wedding
  4. OK Go — This Too Shall Pass (Rube Goldberg machine)
  5. The Mountain Goats — Thank You Mario, But Our Princess Is In Another Castle!
  6. Discovery Channel Song “Boom De Ya Da”
  7. Stephen Fry Is Broken By Guests on QI
  8. David Mitchell’s Soapbox — Television Credits
  9. Mitchell & Webb Show — Advertising for Women and Men
  10. Ed Helms sings “Stu’s Song” from “The Hangover”

Sunday Sountrack: Jason Segel — Man or Muppet (written by Bret McKenzie)

Does this choice need explanation? If so, here you are: the dude from Flight of the Conchords just won an Oscar for a song he wrote for the Muppets. If that isn’t the maximum amount of awesome one can pack into a sentence, I simply don’t know anything about awesome. Or sentences.

Adorable Duet of the Day: Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie and Kermit the Frog perform “Life’s a Happy Song” — the opening number from the upcoming Muppets movie.

McKenzie, who served as The Muppets’ music supervisor, wrote and/or produced all of the movie’s original songs.
